Christian Wolff was the son of the publisher Kurt Wolff (1887-1963) and Kurt's second wife, Helen Wolff (née Mosel; 1906-1994), both of whom were friends of Alma Mahler, and had been friends also of Franz Werfel. Kurt Wolff had been Werfel's publisher from 1912 to 1923. Christian was born in Nice, France; the family emigrated to the U.S. in 1940 or 1941.
